Beginning Class

Bring: Sewing machine in good working order; basic sewing supplies (neutral cotton thread, pins, etc.); rotary mat, cutter, 6" x 24" ruler, 12 1/2" square ruler. (No need to bring machine to first class.)
FABRIC: Pattern can be done in 6 1/2" blocks or 12 1/2" blocks. Fabric requirement for larger blocks is in parentheses ().
Inspiration piece -- multicolor medium or large scale print 2/3 (1 1/2) yards. Used for the Border.
First Color Family: Dark large scale tone on tone 1/3 (2/3) yds. Medium tone and medium scale print 1/8 (1/4)yds.
Second Color Family: Dark small scale tone on tone 1/4 (1/3) yds. Medium tone small scale print 1/8 (1/8) yds.
Accent: medium for a 'zinger' 1/8 (1/8)yds.
Background: for blocks: medium scale print 1/2 (1) yds.
for triangles and center square: large scale tone on tone 1/3 (1) yds.

Materials List
- Finished size: 16 1/2" x 19 1/2"
- 5/8 yd. off-white fabric for appliqué background and borders
- Fat quarter of 'pineapple' gold print for pineapples
- Fat quarter of gold print for inner border, flower centers, and leaves (can be same as pineapple print)
- Fat quarter of blue print for berries appliqués
- 1/2 yd. green print for appliquéd pineapples, stems and binding
- Dark green embroidery floss
Other Class Supplies
- Easy Appliqué Samplers book available in class
- Thread to match or blend with appliqué fabrics
- Light-colored quilting thread
- Your favorite appliqué needles
- Embroidery needles (size 8)
- Thimble
- Paper scissors
- Small sharp scissors that cut to the point
- Straight pins (1/2" or 3/4" appliqué pins recommended)
- Sharp pencil
- Fabric marker that will show on background fabric (silver pencil recommended)
- 12" square of freezer paper
- Tape (Scotch Removable Magic Tape recommended)
- Glue Stick
- Little bag for trash
- Ott Light (optional)
Before Class
- Wash and iron all fabrics.
- From the off- white fabric, cut:
- 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" rectangle for center appliqué background
- 2 border strips, 3 1/2" x 13 1/2"
- 2 border strips, 3 1/2" x 16 1/2"
After class you will also need
- 5/8 yard of print fabric for backing and sleeve
- 21 x 24 piece of lightweight batting
